awkward stares

every-so-often, i intentionally take my camera somewhere that i normally don’t. ho-hum, normal errands we run everyday don’t ever seem to deserve the respect of a full throttle DSLR. last week i changed that, and i lugged it along to the grocery store.

i’m not a huge fan of grocery shopping, so what better way to spice it up than to get weird looks from strangers? looks that say,

*really lady? pictures? at a grocery store? c’mon. get a life.*

awkward, much.

but all i can think is, *hey you, awkward-staring person…this IS my life.* this is us, everyday, right now. just us being us. me at the grocery store with part of my circus.

i don’t want to forget that shock of blonde hair staring up at me while i dig through the apples in search of the best ones.

or that 15 minutes in, sweet pea had had enough. apparently, she’s not a fan of the grocery store either. go figure.

i’m convinced it’s the normal moments that equal our life; that are what we’re made of, so really, there’s no good reason NOT to photograph the normal. our normal.

the only thing i don’t regret is not taking a picture of the awkward stares i was getting!

hopefully this encourages you to break out of your shell and photograph a *normal* part of your life…even if it does get awkward! 🙂

peace out *

stacey - lani * haha! your comment made me laugh, that’s awesome!

Lani Holmes - I tried this today..we were originally going to go Go-Karting, unfortunately it was closed so we went to Walmart to get some groceries instead and I immediately thought of this post and thought what the hell, I already have my camera with me, may as well make the best out of the situation! And boy oh boy did I get dirty looks! Im sure people thought I was an obsessive mom who for some reason needed shots of her child at walmart but i didnt care! Great post Stacey!

stacey - amber * you should try it…it really did make grocery shopping more fun!

Amber - I LOVE these! See I have so many fun pictures of my kids in places like the park and obviously all over the house but I never think to try to capture some of the other aspects in life. I think next time I go to the grocery store I need to bring my dslr and get pictures of my older son pushing his little sister around like crazy through the isles and then her attacking the table of bananas because she can’t understand having to wait until we get home.

I LOVE your normal! 🙂
