grateful project : the little things * day 4

grateful : day 4

innocence is what i’m grateful for today. the innocence of small children in general, but mostly, this little story about owen from yesterday that spurred this gratitude in particular.

yesterday afternoon, it was HOT (like, hello november, you’re NOVEMBER, not june, ok?! think 95 cool fall degrees…oozing sarcasm here…) but owen had it in his little noggin’ that he wanted to dig in his sandbox, so he headed out to play. i stayed inside to attempt my usual 0h-crap-it’s-4:30-lover-will-be-home-soon super fast house clean and my what-the-heck-are-we-going-to-have-for-dinner frenzy (you know…to hide the fact that i spent my entire day playing! 🙂 anyway, emmi and i are inside working on our ‘projects’ when i can hear owen yelling in the backyard. curious, i go both to check it out and to see if he needs me. the dialogue :

me : “hey buddy. i heard you yelling, but couldn’t tell what you were saying. did you need something?”

owen : “i was just yelling at God. i was asking him if he could just make it a little cooler out.”

🙂

we helped God out and set up the umbrella, which owen promplty thanked God for. i’m hoping this is a tiny sign that the seed of gratitude i’m trying to plant in my babies is starting to sprout…

innoncence. i love it. i cherish it. it’s all around you and in every child. be thankful. i’m not positive, but i’m pretty sure we could all use a little more innocence in the world.
