you rock mr. camel

dear mr. camel,

you obscure animal you. somehow you’ve captivated sweet pea’s attention, and she has developed a bizarre fascination with you that no one can understand nor figure out. we don’t have books about camels. we don’t sing songs about camels. we don’t talk about camels. yet somehow, some way, you’ve weaseled your way into her brain, you weasely thing you, so that over a month now, she’s asked for a camel for Christmas. a camel to ride on none-the-less.

let me tell you something mr. camel, sir. it’s relatively, practically, basically, almost 100% impossible to find a large, toy camel for a 2 year old to ride on. short of cutting off an arm and a leg or selling my kidney on the black market, there just aren’t any. you know why?

NOBODY LIKES THE CAMEL.

nobody. except, sweet pea.

like the fox, we don’t even know what you say! i could easily match the *fox song* with a camel song. i can hear it now,

*what does the camel say?! bip-bip-bip-bip-bippety-bip-dee-bop. bipty-bop bipty-bop, hop!*

to your credit i did find this fun little song about you {is it weird i can remember singing this in the 2nd grade and loving it?! maybe camel-love is genetic…}

and you did have that funny hump day commercial a bit back….

and lucky for me, {and this has nothing to do with you mr. camel other than the simple fact that you are the one that got us into this predicament in the first place} we have an extremely talented, very awesome, insanely generous great aunt who has stepped in to sew a camel like this:

{but with 2 humps} to go under the tree Christmas morning {thank you michelle!!!!!}

so see? despite your best efforts to make me {and santa}, look like the bad guys…we are doing our ding-dang best to make sure Christmas is Christmas is Christmas. and for sweet pea? this year, Christmas is all about you, the often-not-loved-no-one-is-interested-in camel.

despite the somewhat {almost all} sarcastic tone of this letter, i did want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making a LIVE appearance in our town this weekend. much to our surprise, you showed up. you made Christmas real for a sweet {sometimes ornery} 2 year old.

you impressed.

so, regardless of the fact that we don’t know what sound you make, and that you made Christmas shopping much {much-MUCH} more difficult/tricky/creative/stressful this year…

…we love you mr. camel. you make my 2 year old’s hearts sing. you make her smile. you spread Christmas cheer in a way no other animal could have this year.

you rock mr. camel.

cheers *
