the joy of luck * photography project *

once i start a project, i need to finish it, right? well, here are days 3, 4, & 5 of the joy of luck photography project i’m participating in . . . did you sign up? you should! and if you did, leave a comment and share a link to your images!

day 3 . lucky symbols

{emailed prompt: What are some traditional, lucky symbols that you can think of?  How has our culture created its own perception of what brings luck (and what brings bad luck?).  Look around your surroundings . . . what lucky “token” can you find?}

lucky symbol * horseshoe

conveniently enough, we have a whole stack of old horseshoes in our backyard. i’m not sure why exactly . . . we don’t have a horse or a horseshoe pit, so perhaps they’re there for luck? did you know when/if you hang a horseshoe, you should always, ALWAYS hang it so it looks like the letter ‘U’? hang it ‘upside down’ and you dump out all the luck!

day 4 . favorite material things

{emailed prompt: I am certain that if you think hard, you can think of a material thing that you LOVE.  What is it?  Capture it with your lens. The sky is the limit for this lesson!  We are all so fortunate for what we have, materially.  We’re lucky to have these material objects.  Let’s focus on our luck and blessings today!}

favorite material thing * car

there were lots of material things i could think of that i’m thankful for: my phone, computer, technology in general, but when i thought about what really, really impacts my life, it had to be my mode of transportation., because wow! think of how many times a day we hop in and out of it! it gets us to work, to school, to connect with others, to see new things . . . it can turn into a karaoke venue, or a movie theater or story time, and for me, when i’m in a slump and feeling kind of down, nothing is better than hopping in the car, rolling down the windows, winging through the drive-thru for coffee, cranking up the radio, and hitting the open road. pedal to the metal, baby. no destination. no time limit. just me and the car i drive!

day 5 . what brings you luck?

{emailed prompt: What in your life has brought you the most luck or blessings?  It can be animate or inanimate.  This can be when you hit a certain age, or when you earned a certain job title or even when you got married or became a parent.  When, in your life, do you believe that your life became filled with luck, blessings and joy?}

becoming a parent has filled me with luck and blessings and joy in ways i could have never imagined. before i got pregnant, i was always the lady that said, “i will never, NEVER be a stay-at-home mom. i would go insane being at home all day everyday. i want a career.”

well, guess what? having kids altered my perspective, and i was blessed to be able to work full time, but part time at home after turbojet was born. and i was blessed to be able to take turbojet to work with me each day. and i was blessed to be laid off on turbojet’s birthday with a baby on the way. (did i say blessed? yes, BLESSED.) all of these things were blessings, because each step led me closer to being a stay-at -home mom (which i now love . . . though admittedly there are days when i do feel my sanity slipping! but be honest, who doesn’t?) and each step allowed me to a cultivate this photography career that i love and am SO passionate about.

of course, my babies are blessings in many, MANY other ways, but they are the ones who have set me on my new career path: professional mama and photographer. thank you, baby boys, my little blessings . . . what lucky little guys you are for me!
