hair! (not the broadway kind)

baby girl has some hair problems. like rat’s nest, tangled up, show-her-a-brush and she freaks, hair problems. yup. according to my own mama, my hair used to be the same way {praise the Lord, it’s not like that anymore or i’d run from a brush too!} as tangled and bedraggled as she looks often days, it’s still a detail of her little self that i don’t want to forget.

so bedraggled hair, consider yourself documented.

cute in the front,

party in the back.

kind of like a mullet, but not.

and now that it’s documented, i am now taking any and all suggestions for hair products to eliminate this problem. anyone have an awesome detanglers??

i’m all ears…

Dominique - 1. Have her sleep on a satin pillowcase or bonnet.

2.Only brush it when wet or damp, dry brushing makes it frizz up.

3. Try a light leave in conditioner with a wide toothed comb when you brush.

4. Invest in a Tangle Teezer.

Mell - Just found this blog from Pinterest, but had to chime in because my hair was a nightmare to brush growing up – long, wavy, and thick!
Life got a lot better when Johnson & Johnson brought out “No More Tangles” spray. You just spray it on the hair as you brush. It really helped my hair de-tangle and the brush no longer hurt my scalp as it pulled. It didn’t leave my hair greasy or have any noticeable side-effect. We used it for several years, until adolescence. I could not recommend it or a similar spray high enough for using with your daughter.
I hope this helps!

Kelly - I’ve heard awesome things about the knot genie brush http://www.knotgenie.com/

embee - my sister’s MIL had three boys and used to joke that the one with the worst bedhead was called the “rooster of the day.” my sister and i love to joke about the rooster of the day with our boys 🙂 seems to me maybe it’s not just a boy thing though…. your daughter would win rooster of the day for sure!

Jane - I was older then her, but the only think that worked was braiding before bed. Good luck ladies!!

Kathy - Avi was the EXACT same way, except her hair was curly and thick. We finally became successful using a combination of things.

1) Watching Tangled and the Princess Called Rap episode of Strawberry Shortcake, the story of Rapunzel helped her want to get long hair.
2) To get long hair, we need to brush it and use shampoo to clean it (she did not ever want me to wash her hair…)
3) Swimming lessons – because she got use to getting her hair wet which didn’t scare her too much which in turn, also helped her let us wash her hair.
4) double french braiding her hair at night, which made it so it didn’t become so terrible to brush in the mornings.
