how to host a food fight

turbo had an epic 6th birthday party this weekend. he wanted a food fight. his crazy parents {ahem} said yes! oh, and we’re so glad we did!

as i’m scrolling through the pictures trying to decide which one’s to share with you, i have a GIANT grin on my face and am sitting here laughing at their faces spread with joy and smeared with food, at spaghetti flying across our tiny backyard {our neighbors might now officially think we’re off our rocker. i can assure you, we’re not. we just like to have fun! that’s all.}, and at the pure craziness of it all.

i laugh.

life is short. who cares if it’s messy as long as it’s fun!

i’m going to bombard you with pictures, but i thought it might be fun to run this post more like a how to, just in case any of you crazy parents out there want to throw your kids a food fight party! 🙂 plus, we learned some things along the way, so i thought i’d share those as well to save you some trouble!

{before epic food fight…i think they’re excited}

what you need :

  • food to throw {we used : pudding, spaghetti o’s, jello, spaghetti, and cool whip pies}
  • tarps {for the ground}
  • tables
  • LOTS of tupperware or plastic bowls
  • kids ready to get messy!

{on your mark,get set, GO!}

how we did it :

  •  we divided the kids up into teams {in our case : 3 on each side of the table}
  • we did the food fight in rounds to hopefully have *controlled chaos* for the most part, it worked!
  • round 1 : pudding, round 2 : spaghetti o’s, round 3 : jello, round 4 : spaghetti, round 5 : cool whip pies

{sweet pea meandered around grazing during the food fight and somehow managed not to get in the line of fire…miracle.}

things we learned :

  • do not use spaghetti o’s. they make the whole mess smell like throw up {for reals}
  • buy cheap swimming goggles for them to wear or have a bucket of rags handy to wipe eyes
  • have towels ready for them after they’ve been hosed off
  • have a power washer ready to power wash your grass {we have turf so this was do-able. the other option would be to have it in a field where clean up wasn’t necessary}

{after!}

they had a blast! i’m not gonna lie, it was a LOT of work, but SO worth the fun they had!

this was the funniest {grossest?} picture though….after all was said and done, and the boys were being hosed down, sweet pea set up camp underneath the tables to munch on leftovers {gag} 🙂

has anyone else ever had a food fight? would love to hear how you did it!
