my life as i live it . a daily dose

i’m in the home stretch of my pregnancy and while logically, i know my due date is near {august 10th}, illogically, it has never felt so. flippin’ far. away.  turbojet and i made a countdown until ‘baby,’ and i have yet to decide if that was a good idea or not.  now the number of days sits on my counter and stares me in the face…dare i say, mocking me? 18 more days sucker! the good news? it can only go down, right people? glass half full baby.

thankfully, our house is finally feeling baby prepared. last minute items have arrived in the mail {including my SUPER cute diaper bag! thank you hot mama handbags!}, baby clothes have been washed, big brothers have been prepped mentally {though sunshine’s adjustment may not go as smoothly as turbojet’s…} and so…we wait. *sigh*

i must be feeling thankful this morning, because i had the urge to start this paragraph the same way as the previous one {“thankfully,…”} but it couldn’t be truer, so lets rock it…thankfully, the boys have been full of one-liners to keep me laughing and our week filled with summertime fun to push along our baby countdown…

…let’s do this : daily dose!

i’m going to kickoff today’s daily dose with my favorite one-liner of the week {note to self : do NOT become a comedian…i’m pretty sure it’s like comedic law to NOT unveil your best joke right off the bat…i digress…}

sunshine busted out a good-old toy standby : the doctor kit : earlier this week, with yours truly as the lucky patient. you know, stethoscope with the fake heartbeat, blood pressure that whirls faster than your eyes can follow, temperature that always registers 98.6, the whole toy doctor kit nine yards. he even gave me my booster shots, with which i reacted with a sad face and received the response, “it’s ok mommy,” and got handed my first-ever pretend lollipop. in true mommy fashion, i began to eat the fake lollipop enthusiastically shouting, “yum, yum, yum!”  the cheesy grin plastered on my face was in clear juxtaposition to sunshine’s concerned, disgusted one when he calmly told me,

“there’s a hair on it.”

really sunshine? a hair? on my pretend lollipop? now THAT’S some impressive imagining! i threw my pretend lollipop away and promptly asked for another.

we took the boys to a professional street league skateboarding competition this week. a first for all of us. we got free ticks and figured why not? after all, i do have boys. boys that love to ride and scooter and generally be on anything with wheels…our seats were awesome and so were the boarders {i can call them that now see, i’ve been initiated in to skateboarder coolness.} and the boys, particularly turbojet, were VERY intrigued. the screaming fans, the jumps, the flips, the wrecks…little boy heaven. you can imagine that scooters have transformed into pretend skateboards at our house this week.

on a similar, but not-so-similar note, i’ve always said i wouldn’t be surprised if turbojet would be my bmx-er and sunshine would be my allstar baseball/football player. only time will tell, but without pushing turbojet, we discovered a bmx park while in montana; he pedaled his little legs off and begged for more; we found a screamin’ deal on a bmx bike; and a potential new hobby for our not-so-little, little man.

{practicing…}

i am being totally and completely honest when i say, i CANNOT wait to see where the boy’s interests will continue to grow and develop. i love watching them become intrigued and fascinated with different activities, developing likes/dislikes based on what they are drawn to and NOT what they are pushed to. i’m open to bmx biking with turbojet NOW, but understand that interest could wane and flourish into something else LATER. isn’t that fabulous? parents! let your kids guide YOU to their interests…if you do ANYTHING, please, PLEASE don’t force an interest, an activity, on them. give them opportunity, but don’t push them if they don’t like it. remember, they are their own little people, with their own personalities. let them shine! {off my soapbox now *promise*}

since we’re rollin’ on a bike theme, this is how you play in your swimming pool right?

that’s what i thought.

it’s summertime. it’s hot. duh. if you’re a coffee-lover like me, hot coffee can be a slap in the face in the heat of the afternoon when you need a pick-me-up. which leads me to, iced coffee and the pursuit of a perfect recipe for the perfect cup. here’s a recipe i found online that comes pretty close…the super-secret? coffee iced cubes!

{or perhaps drinking it from a mason jar? love this image! i envision myself sitting in the deep shade of a covered front porch, sippin’ my iced coffee, watchin’ the day idle by…*ah!* image courtesy : under the sycamore}

i think turbojet has been taking ‘imaginative’ lessons from sunshine. the other day he flipped upside down on our ottoman and declared he was waiting for everything in the room to drop, and wondered, “am i going to drop to the ceiling?” :0) does anyone else get an alice in wonderland feeling here? love it!

i don’t mean to brag {but i’m going to, ha!} but i kicked a habit recently and need to share with someone other than lover who, if i show him my hands one more time, may disown me! i used to be a nail-biter. big time. big enough that i passed it on to turbojet {note : have thought about completing research on the potential of nail-biting being a genetic tendency. not really, but seriously though, it runs in my family.} the point is…look!

happy hands!

i feel like there’s a bajillion things i wanted to share with you this week…i must have missed you! but i’m going to cut myself off soon because the day is calling my name…i have lemonade to make, and water fights to partake in, you know, big things. everyday things. life. so last couple things…

i went to coffee with a fellow photographer the other day {a WHOLE other topic, but thank you Tonya, of Tonya Lewis Photography, for meeting with me…so fun!} and on my way out the door, i was shadowed by a very sad ray of sunshine who wanted to go with me. our conversation went something like this :

sunshine * you can’t go bye-bye…

me * why not?

sunshine * you’re too big for the street.

blunt, but the kid may have a point…i can barely see my toes!

now go! live your life this weekend!
